Lyme disease is one of the world’s most complicated bacteria. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates there are over 300,000 new reported cases of Lyme disease each year in the U.S. alone, making it the fastest growing infectious disease in the U.S. Yet research is significantly underfunded.
Laird and Sherry Cagan have launched the Stand4Lyme Foundation, with the purpose of creating a revolutionary Lyme disease platform to accelerate a cure for Lyme disease, joining forces with an extraordinary group of scientists at Stanford University to “Pave a Medical Path to Wellness for Patients at all Stages of Lyme Disease.” The Cagan's have established the Stand4Lyme Fund at the Stanford School of Medicine to expedite medical advancements for Lyme disease. Donors to the fund have the exciting opportunity to partner with the Stanford Lyme Working Group—a collaborative collection of brilliant minds who share a sense of urgency to accelerate cutting-edge research in Lyme disease.
Focusing Stand4Lyme’s efforts at Stanford University School of Medicine will leverage Stanford’s established tradition of interdisciplinary collaboration and a proven track record of translating scientific discovery into solutions for complex challenges. The Stanford Lyme Working Group is an extraordinary, interdisciplinary group of esteemed research scientists and physicians, co-lead by Stanford leaders Dr. Mark Davis and Dr. Laura Roberts. Through work at Stanford and collaborations at other leading institutions, they are focused on making medical advances towards more effective therapeutics for Lyme disease and other related tick-borne diseases.
Combining Stanford’s leading scientific and technological capabilities with proven ability to move new discoveries to the clinic, translates to a promising future; a medical path to wellness for Lyme patients. These efforts may also uncover answers for other diseases Lyme patients are often misdiagnosed with, such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis, ALS, Autism and Alzheimer’s.
Stand4Lyme believes focusing our efforts at Stanford best leverages our and your investment, and will raise the profile of Lyme research resulting in increased funding for Lyme research worldwide.

About Stand4Lyme Foundation
Sherry and Laird Cagan launched Stand4Lyme Foundation to focus their philanthropic efforts at Stanford University and have established the Stand4Lyme Fund at Stanford. Through direct contributions to Stanford, donors have an exciting opportunity to partner with an interdisciplinary, collaborative collection of brilliant minds who share a sense of urgency to accelerate cutting-edge research in Lyme disease. Stand4Lyme is facilitating continuity of efforts and believes the world can stand united behind this revolutionary platform and the Stanford Lyme Working Group’s exceptional and unique program, that includes collaborations at other leading institutions, holds great promise to solve the puzzles that will one day bring a cure.
Stand4Lyme Foundation Founder and President, Sherry Cagan, nearly lost her life to Lyme in 2011 and Lyme disease has stolen both of her daughters’ youth. She and her husband Laird will not stand by while it steals their young adulthood and is possibly passed on to their children. They stand up to the challenge of finding answers for their family and the millions who remain debilitated, directing their efforts to the collective knowledge and science of some of the world’s leading scientists at Stanford to expedite a potential curative treatment for Lyme disease. Please stand united and partner in “Paving a Path to Wellness for Lyme Disease.”
Stand4Lyme Foundation, a 501c3 volunteer non-profit organization based in Silicon Valley, Stand4Lyme Foundation joins forces with Stanford scientists, paving a medical path to wellness for patients at all stages of Lyme disease. Our all-vollunteer staff ensures contributions are allocated to the Stanford Lyme disease Working Group’s research program and collaborators.
LYME100 Leaders– Invest in Solutions! Please consider joining 99 other leaders who will make an annual pledge of $10K for 5 years. “S4L will keep Lyme100 members informed of impact made possible by their generosity.”

Campaign Kickoff Sunday May 22nd 2016 Stand4Lyme Catalyst 4 The Cure Concert Silicon Valley
Stand4Lyme® Foundation has launched a groundbreaking, collaborative Lyme research platform to accelerate a cure for Lyme diseasepartnering with the Stanford School of Medicine's Stanford Lyme Disease Working Group (SLWG), which includes collaboration at other leading institutions such as Harvard, Johns Hopkins and Columbia. Leveraging Stanford's critical assets fills major gaps in Lyme research and holds great potential to develop a cure.
"Today we do not have accurate diagnostics to assist physicians in diagnosing Lyme disease or screen donated blood for our blood banks, nor do we have therapies that cure all stages of Lyme. We now have an unprecedented opportunity joining forces with brilliant minds who share our urgency to accelerate a reliable diagnostic and a cure for the millions who remain debilitated. However, it requires the private sector to take a STAND and fund these initiatives."
- Sherry Cagan - Stand4Lyme Foundation Founder and President
For the first time, Stand4Lyme's "Lyme in the 21st Century," video has brought together ten of the world's top collaborating scientists such as Dr. Irving Weissman discussing their scientific insights on Lyme disease and the urgency to act. These interviews may shed light on the "Lyme and Tick Borne Disease, Prevention, Education, and Research ACT."
While reintroducing bill S.1503, Senator Blumenthal states during his speech to the US Congress on April 4th, "The cases of Lyme disease are exploding in numbers and the severity impacts our economy as well as the quality of life for Americans. It affects people's ability to perform their jobs, children's ability to go to school, and families' ability to function normally. The disease, if undetected and untreated, can cause the most severe kinds of pain and disability," (speech Senator Blumenth#252F0AD)
Stand4Lyme's Catalyst 4 The Cure® concert, to be held at a Silicon Valley private estate on May 22nd 2016, offers a rare opportunity to meet and discuss the issues of Lyme with some of these world experts. Featuring KC and the Sunshine Band live in concert, along with celebrity Honorary Chairs: Yolanda Hadid,Chynna Phillips and Billy Baldwin benefiting the work of the SLWG.
"We are honored to have the support of the Stand4Lyme Foundation. Its founders Sherry and Laird Cagan have been steady supporters of Stanford University and have been instrumental in helping advance national research for Lyme disease. In their personal quest for a curative treatment and as catalysts for the creation of the Stanford Lyme Working Group, they inspire us to accelerate medical advancements to make Lyme disease history."

Lyme disease is the fastest growing infectious disease in the US, with more than 300,000 new cases reported each year (six times more than HIV). This public health epidemic; costing the US health care system billions annually is significantly underfunded and the public remains largely unaware. Lyme disease is a bacteria spread by ticks. Patients are often misdiagnosed with other diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, ALS, autism and Alzheimer's. If not treated promptly, this bacterium similar to syphilis may progress to a debilitating stage, becoming difficult or impossible to cure. It can be potentially fatal.
Stand4Lyme® Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit based in Silicon Valley, founded by Sherry and Laird Cagan, who's catalyst to their commitment draws from Sherry's personal near death experience with Lyme disease. Stand4Lyme Foundation joins forces with Stanford scientists paving a medical path to wellness for patients at all stages of the disease, ending prolonged suffering of millions.
